Forget that goodwill to all men stuff, turns out there’s something else to look forward to in late 2016. Who needs Christmas when one of your favourite childhood TV shows is coming back to TV?
Yep, The Jim Henson Company has announced that brilliant 80s puppet show Fraggle Rock is returning to our TV screens later this year.
And we’re not talking a remake (which is good because some people have real issues with the idea), but the original programme, digitally remastered so today’s fussy kids can enjoy Red, Wembley, Mokey et al on their HD screens while wondering how their parents ever got by.
The award-winning show will be on HBO, the TV network where it originally premiered in 1983, and the company said in a statement that it hoped to appeal to a new audience.

From 1983 to 1987, 96 episodes ran over five series, with occasional reruns in different countries over the subsequent years.
Richard Goldsmith of The Jim Henson Company told ew.com: “[Post-production company] Illuminate has created a contemporary look for the series with meticulous attention paid to every detail – sharpening the images, cleaning up the contrast, increasing the vibrancy of the colors and re-formatting for wide-screen – all under the careful supervision of Brian Henson.
“We’ll engage a whole new audience who will love meeting the Fraggles, Gorgs, and Doozers.”
A lucky new generation is about to be introduced to the cave-dwelling creatures and their various neighbours (not to mention Marjory the Trash Heap). Yeah, it’s definitely for them. Not for us greedy nostalgia fiends. Nope.
