The second series of The Crown may not have even aired on Netflix, but a new Queen Elizabeth II has already been cast for the third and fourth instalments.
Variety reports that the streaming giant has confirmed star of The Night Manager and Broadchurch, Olivia Colman will be replacing Claire Foy.
The first season of the show was initially set in 1947, but the third and fourth will cover from 1963 onwards, thus the creators always intended to switch actors throughout.

Peter Morgan, series creator, previously told Variety: “You can’t ask someone to act middle-aged.”
Award-winning Colman has appeared in countless acclaimed films and TV shows, including Peep Show, Tyrannosaur, Hot Fuzz, Fleabag, Flowers and The Lobster, and will star in the upcoming star-studded adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express.
Meanwhile, The Crown has raked in plaudits since its Netflix debut in 2016, receiving several awards nominations and wins, including a Best Actress Golden Globe for Foy.
The first two series cover the early days of Elizabeth II’s reign, as she she asserts herself in a male-dominated era and comes to terms with the effects being monarch has on her relationship.
It has not yet been confirmed who will replace Matt Smith as Prince Phillip.
Season two will air in December.
