The Girls on the Bus: everything you need to know about this Hillary Clinton-inspired TV Show

Based on Amy Chozick’s bestselling book Chasing Hillary about Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, the new series will tell the story of the female journalists covering politics.

Coming to the small screen next year – just in time for the 2020 presidential race – is a Netflix series about life as a female journalist covering politics.

Timely, much? The show, called The Girls on the Bus, will be a must-watch for anyone looking for insight into what it’s like to mount a political campaign in the age of Donald Trump and Marianne Williamson. And it will expressly focus on the experience of the female journalists who try to make their way in the traditionally male-dominated field of political reporting.

The Girls on the Bus will stream on Netflix and is based on a bestselling memoir by Amy Chozick called Chasing Hillary about her life following Hillary Clinton on both her 2008 and her 2016 unsuccessful presidential bids. Here is everything we know about the series thus far:

What is The Girls on the Bus about?

The Girls on the Bus will be a fictionalised account of four female journalists covering a presidential campaign. Though Chozick’s original book focused on the campaigns mounted by Clinton in 2008 and 2016, The Girls on the Bus will feature fictional political candidates.

The series is inspired by Clinton, though, and the learnings that Chozick took from observing both of those campaigns, specifically a chapter from Chozick’s book entitled ‘The Girls on the Bus’. (This, in turn, is a riff on the 1973 book The Boys on the Bus about male political reporters.)

The focus of the series will be on those four fictional female journalists as they “follow the every move of a parade of flawed presidential candidates,” according to Deadline. Sounds familiar, right? The show will also focus on the foursome “finding friendship, love and a scandal that could take down not just the presidency but our entire democracy along the way”.

Chozick has co-written the series with showrunner Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and will executive produce alongside her. On Twitter, Chozick wrote: “Tried to think of something self-deprecating to tweet, but fuck it, this is the most exciting this that has ever happened to me.”

“Been cooking this one up all summer,” Plec added on Twitter. “So excited it found a home. Amy Chozick is an absolute writer-star.”

Who is in the cast of The Girls on the Bus?

The cast of The Girls on the Bus has yet to be announced. In our dreams the four female journalists are played by Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein, reuniting the Booksmart co-stars, alongside Gina Rodriguez and Constance Wu.

Is there a trailer for The Girls on the Bus
