“Is this the president we want for our daughters?”: powerful new video exposes real-life impact of Trump’s misogyny against young women

Donald Trump’s own words are being used against him in a heartbreaking new campaign video from his opponent, Hillary Clinton.

The ad, which has been titled Mirrors, sees a number of young women anxiously looking at themselves in the mirror.

As they stare into the eyes of their own reflections, the voice of Trump booms out over the music, making vile comments about women.

The sound bites, all of which have been taken from Trump’s previous campaign speeches and interviews, include remarks about one woman’s “fat ugly face”, before dubbing another a “slob” and a “pig”.

He can also be heard saying, in an unnervingly matter-of-fact voice, that “if someone is flat-chested it’s very difficult for them to be a 10.”

“Does she have a good body? No,” says Trump, towards the end of the clip.

“Does she have a fat ass? Absolutely.”

Watch the powerful campaign video below:

The ad closes with Trump in an older interview being asked, “You treat women with respect?" Trump replies, “I can’t say that, either,” before grinning at the camera.

After fading to black, the ad shows the text: “Is this the president we want for our daughters?”

It definitely drives things home – and many have taken to Twitter to praise the insightful video.

And it’s not the first time that Clinton has argued that Trump is ill-equipped to handle issues that matter to women and girls.

Speaking to CNN about her opponent’s stance on abortion, she said: "Anyone who wants to defund Planned Parenthood and wipe out safe, legal abortion has no idea what's best for women.

"And after all, this is a man who has called women 'pigs,' 'dogs,' and 'disgusting animals.' Kind of hard to imagine counting on him to respect our fundamental rights."

While Mirrors was made to touch the hearts of voters, another has been made to tickle their funny-bones.

In the clip, Lin-Manuel Miranda, best known for creating and starring in award-winning musical Hamilton, puts a series of Trump tweets to music.

All without changing a single word of the social media posts.

Cue such treats as “Happy Thanksgiving to all – even the haters and losers” and the sight of Trump tucking into a taco bowl as he declares “I love Hispanics”.

Watch Lin-Manuel Miranda singing Trump’s tweets below:

Miranda ends the hilarious video with a simple message: “Vote.”

Both videos were made public on 26 September, just days before Clinton and Trump are due to face off in the first presidential debate.
