Misha Nonoo’s wedding: Meghan Markle just championed the black dress

Meghan Markle, Karlie Kloss and Princess Eugenie have championed black wedding guest dresses at Misha Nonoo’s highly secretive wedding. And we’re very into it.

For anyone who had to RSVP at least 26 weddings this summer (most of us, right?), you’ll understand the dilemma of wedding guest outfit shopping. Traditionally, there’s been a weird expectation to wear something colourful and floral from the “wedding guest dresses” department. But we’ve recently seen some refreshingly modern trends come through, including cool wedding guest jumpsuits, razor sharp trouser suits, and serious straw hats

Now, the Duchess of Sussex has championed the black wedding guest dresss trend with her choice of gown at fashion designer and close friend Misha Nonoo’s wedding.

Nonoo’s Italian wedding with Michael Hess took place on Friday night (20 September). The 6pm ceremony was at the 17th-century Villa Aurelia to coincide with the sunset. It was followed by a gala dinner and a dance. As you can imagine, strong security measures were taken to protect guests’ privacy, but we did get some intel on the celebrity guests’ outfits.

Attending the private ceremony in Rome, Meghan was photographed wearing a sheer black Valentino gown with sparkly embellishments and puffy sleeves.

And she wasn’t the only guest to cross over to the dark side of wedding guest outfits…

Model Karlie Kloss wore a black, strapless gown featuring feather detail around the bodice and a split to the knee. And Princess Eugenie opted for a black dress, complete with long sleeves and a high neckline.

So, is black really the new colour of choice when it comes to picking out an outfit for your next wedding?

One guest that decided to inject some colour into the ceremony was Katy Perry, who wore a bubblegum pink Marchesa Notte tulle dress with embellished flowers. And Princess Beatrice went for something gold and very sparkly.

The moral of the story? Wear whatever colour you want to at a wedding.

Meghan and Nonoo recently collaborated on a clothing collection for the Smart Works charity. The pair are close friends and it is widely reported that Nonoo is the person who first introduced Meghan to her husband Prince Harry on a blind date.

As a fashion designer, Nonoo is know for her sustainable, sleek and timeless designs. She is also the woman behind Meghan’s “The Husband Shirt”, which she wore at the Toronto Invictus Games in 2017.

We’re yet to see Nonoo’s wedding dress, but it’s guaranteed to be something very special indeed.
