The moment we’ve all been waiting for – our first glimpse of the new Mary Poppins film…
If you ask us, Mary Poppins is one of the greatest films ever made – so we were very excited when a trailer for its much-hyped sequel, Mary Poppins Returns, hit our screens.
Screened during the 2018 Academy Awards, the trailer gives us our first glimpse of Mary since the first film was released 50 years ago.
Emily Blunt is taking on the iconic role, with Lin-Manuel Miranda as lamplighter Jack, while a grown-up Jane and Michael Banks are played by Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw.
The trailer opens with a shot of the kite from the original film, discarded in a box.
But then the kite is picked up by the wind, flying down the street and into the arms of a little boy – who turns out to be Michael Banks’ son, Georgie.
And look out for some familiar faces: Dick Van Dyke, who famously starred as sort-of-Cockney Burt in the original, will be playing a character called Mr Dawes Jr.
“Mary Poppins! It’s wonderful to see you”, Michael Banks exclaims at the end of the trailer.
“Yes, it is, isn’t it?”, she replies.
We couldn’t agree more.
