As fans of Channel 4’s Married at First Sight will no doubt remember, Caroline and Adam got on like a house on fire when they first met, proving to have a very similar sense of humour and love of all things geeky – and even felt confident enough to kiss on their wedding night.

While they seemed to hit a rocky patch when discussing where they should live (both were tied to their jobs in London and Bournemouth respectively), the couple stuck it out – and it seemed as if they’d found their ‘happy ever after’ with one another and their pet rabbit, Nigel.

Praising their matchmakers, Caroline said at the time: “The experts have done a really good job. I think they will be on our Christmas list forever.”

However she has since confirmed that the pair, like so many other couples who have been matched on the reality show, have called time on their marriage.

Fans first became concerned when Caroline announced that she was selling the Vera Wang wedding dress she wore to tie the knot with Adam.

“I wore this beautiful dress whilst marrying a stranger on Channel 4's Married at First Sight in June 2016,” she wrote on the listing, adding that the gown is in a “wonderful condition” and “can be seen on Season 2, Episode 2” of the show.

Note the use of the word “stranger”.

Viewers then began backtracking through Caroline’s Instagram posts, and stumbled across a shot of her posing alongside a handful of her fellow MAFS contestants at a glam New Year’s Eve party.

She captioned the shot: “It's safe to say 2016 hasn't been what I expected... I took a leap of faith and married a stranger on national TV, but instead of living happily ever after with a scientifically matched husband I found something even more amazing; these cool kids.

“Every day these beautiful souls buoy me up and give me something to smile about. It's been a mad year, but I can't think of anyone better to party into 2017 with.”

People immediately noticed that Adam wasn’t included in the picture.

“Did you and Adam split?” one asked bluntly.

“Yes, we did,” replied Caroline. However, clearly focusing on the future, she later added: “Onwards and upwards.”

At least she stands to make £850 from selling her used designer wedding gown.

The concept of Married at First Sight is pretty simple; a group of experts analyse applications from singletons, pairing them up with the most ‘scientifically-perfect’ spouse. This results in a legally-binding wedding between two complete strangers (hence the title), a honeymoon, and a six-week period where the new husband and wife live together and see what’s what.

The show, regardless as to whether it’s the UK, US, or Aussie version, has never enjoyed a higher success rate than 25% – and it’s worth remembering that the low success rate only considers the first six months, let alone the first six years of the relationship.
