After a recent study found that 65% of women change their surname when they tie the knot, the tide still appears to be in favour of women opting to change their moniker when they enter a marriage.
Although the likes of Zoe Saldana’s husband Marco Perego has changed his name to match that of his partner, according to a recent YouGov poll, 59% of those surveyed still said that they would opt to swap their surname to the same as their husband’s.
Now, taking to secret-sharing app Whisper, 15 men have opened up about why they decided to take their wife’s surname after marriage.
"When we get married, I'll either take my wife's name or we'll pick out a new name together. I don't want to keep my last name. I want to start out fresh, just her and I as our own little family," wrote one user.
Another added: "Hopefully someday last names will be passed along matriarchal lines."
And one, acknowledging the important role his wife’s name plays in her career, added: “My wife has a doctorate and I wanted our kids to have the same name as both of us, so I took hers. It seemed like a major pain to try and change hers and this was easier.”
