Late last year the world became gripped by the story of Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, whose court cases were documented by Netflix true-crime drama Making A Murderer.

It spurred an onslaught of memes, innumerable conspiracy theories and even a petition with over half a million signatures calling for Obama to exonerate Avery.

But after 10 episodes, the show left fans wanting more. And now it seems the creators Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi are going to deliver, as they revealed plans for a second series at a convention in New York yesterday.

Making A Murderer follows the remarkable story of Wisconsin-born Avery, who after serving 18 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit was then trialed and found guilty of the murder of another victim - Teresa Halbach.

Dassey, who was 16 at the time of the crime, was also convicted of murder.

“From our perspective this story is obviously not over,” Ricciardi said at the Stranger Than Fiction panel in New York. “It’s real life and [Avery’s and Dassey’s] cases are both still pending. 

“We have no idea when the magistrate will make a decision in Brendan’s case. We do know that two potential outcomes are that the judge could order Brendan’s release or he could order a new trial. 

“So we are on the edge of seats about that. To the extent that there are significant developments, we would like to continue documenting this (case).”

This announcement comes after the duo revealed they have several recorded conversations with Avery which they would like to include in future episodes. Add to this the fact that Avery now has a new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, who claims to have new evidence with which to defend her client.

Then there's the omission of large amounts of evidence from the first series of Making A Murderer due to its brevity. All in all, it looks like there's plenty of material for the second series.
