JK Rowling’s cryptic Harry Potter tweet just caused magic on the internet

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tickets are still the trickiest thing for mere muggles to get their hands on, but JK Rowling has just heavily hinted that the film adaptation is on it’s way.

It’s been over 20 years since JK Rowling first introduced Harry Potter to the world of muggles, but the magic still lives, as the notoriously hard-to-get-tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child proves. We’ve also recently seen a Harry Potter collaboration with Vans and a Rowling-inspired lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury. And earlier this week, fans gathered at London King’s Cross to celebrate Back to Hogwarts Day

Now, Rowling has set Twitter alight with another Harry Potter announcement. But, in true Rowling style, she’s been very cryptic.

The author shared a graphic on Friday (6 September), which shows the death eater skull and Slytherin House snake. It’s perhaps a modern interpretation of the Dark Mark?

She captioned the image: “Sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places #HarryPotter #CursedChild.” This serves as the tagline on advertisements for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – hint hint…

It’s the author’s first tweet in over six months, but what does it all mean? Well, the most popular theory is that Rowling is heavily hinting confirmation of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child film adaptation. This has divided fans, with some welcoming an excuse for another HP film and others saying that it needs to stop. Then there are the fans who are just happy to welcome Rowling back to Twitter.

The last Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsPart 2, was released in 2011. Of course, since then we’ve been given the spin-off prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with the third installment set for release in November 2020.

Let’s be honest: whether you enjoyed or hated Cursed Child (or are yet to get a pair of tickets), a film production would be another huge hit.

We’ll continue to follow to cryptic clues.
