It's thinner, lighter, faster... and it's jumped to the top of our wishlists. It's the iPad 2

Apple Inc unveiled the next generation iPad 2 last night in San Francisco. It's potentially the most wanted gadget to date. It's even snazzier than the first version and has the following new features: two video cameras – one at the front and one at the back, improved speed and graphics, it's available in lusted-after white or black, you can add a magnetic smart cover in plastic or leather, which wakes your iPad when opened and automatically puts it to sleep when closed, it’s lighter and best of all slimmer (thinner than the iPhone 4), which makes it easier to carry around.

Apple founder Steve Jobs appeared at the launch, less than two months after announcing he was taking an indefinite medical leave of absence - he’s currently battling pancreatic cancer. He joked with the audience; “I just didn't want to miss today."

The iPad 2 will be available in the UK from 25 March and is rumoured to cost £429 – expect long queues outside the shop again - we might see you there!
