James Bond favours a shaken-not-stirred martini, Patsy and Eddie prefer a Stoli-Bolli, and Carrie Bradshaw is all about her cosmopolitan cocktails.

We, however, tend to flock towards all things gin-based… especially when there’s tonic involved.

Understandably, then, we were over the moon when we heard that Portobello Road Gin are bringing an extra-special pop-up to Covent Garden this week, which promises to be choc-a-block full with fresh market fruit, vegetables, spices, and herbs, so that you can custom-build your perfect G&T.

It sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?

But, if you’re not the creative type, don’t despair – they’ve also got a delicious range of market special Copa G&Ts for you to wrap your lips around instead.

There’s the ‘Parisian Affair’, which delivers a fresh and sharp punch of gin, lemon tonic, fresh lemon, star anise, and just a dash of absinthe. Or you could sample their ‘Ultimate Summer Copa’, which muddles watermelon with cucumber for a delicious cool-down after a hot day in the city.

Or, if you fancy something completely different, there’s always their ‘Greetings from the Med’, which transports you to the sun-soaked olive groves of continental Europe with an earthy blend of Mediterranean tonic, olives, rosemary, and black pepper. Yum.

Throw in the expert bartenders, all of whom were trained at the distillery’s gin museum, and you have a recipe for gin-soaked perfection. Which is, in our mind, the best and only kind of perfection there is.

Entry to the market is free, with the oh-so-quaffable gin, tinctures, garnishes, and tonics priced up at £8 - £9.

However, as is the case with every pop-up, you’ll have to get your skates on if you want to try their wares for yourself; it’s only there for a few days.

So get thee to Covent Garden quick-sharp, we say, because time waits for no one – and neither does gin.
