World Gin Day (8 June) is a global celebration of all things gin… and, presumably, tonic. With that in mind, we have just one question: how do we love thee, G&T? Let us count the ways…
There’s no denying it; gin, in all of its botanical-based glory, is having something of a renaissance at the moment.
We recently discovered that our favourite juniper juice is packed full of health benefits, not to mention the fact that there’s all sorts of exciting gin-based celebrations around the UK (including distillery sleepovers and boozy afternoon teas).

Yes, gin is having a moment – but we loved it long before it was cool.
If you, like us, suspect that you and Mother’s Ruin might be soulmates, look this way; we’ve unveiled all the signs that you’re meant to be together...
14 signs that gin is your one true love
1. You think about gin, even when you’re not with it
… and you’re pretty confident that gin is thinking about you, too.
2. You’ve introduced gin to your family and friends…
They’re all fans. How could they not be, when gin is so good for you? Sure, there’s that one person, who says they just “don’t get it”, but you have a strong suspicion that they’re just jealous.
3. You’re comfortable being your most authentic selves together
You can be sat at home on a Friday night, dressed in PJs, waiting on a takeaway order, and settling down to watch an entire TV series on Netflix. And gin doesn’t care. Gin is right there alongside you, chilling gently in a glass, and refusing to judge your life choices.
4. You’re best friends
You’ve had some of your best and messiest times together – and gin has always been there to help you celebrate those special moments in life.
5. You’re secure enough to be apart…
Nobody can drink gin 24/7, sadly.
Well, not unless it's the non-alcoholic version, that is...
6. … but nothing is better than being together
You’re always counting down the hours until gin o’clock, aka the best time of day.
7. It’s like you can’t even see other drinks
Yes, you’ve heard of rosé, and vodka, and tequila… but you know that they’re nothing compared to gin. Gin is the ultimate, your one and only – and you don’t care what anyone else says.
8. You like to treat gin to something special every now and then…
How about a specialist tonic to spice things up, eh?
9. You respect each other (and you genuinely care about gin's future)
You know that gin is a sophisticated drink, that requires great reverence – and gin, likewise, knows that you’re woman of very refined taste indeed. That’s why you work so well together. And yes, you’ve read countless articles about how juniper bushes are endangered, and you’ve been busy working out a plan to save them.
For purely selfless reasons, obviously.
10. You cater to the needs of gin, without even thinking about it
Translation: you always have a cucumber in your fridge, ice in your freezer, and limes in the fruit bowl.
11. You can always find it in your hearts to forgive one another
Gin may have given you a headache, and you may have ignored it for several days as a result, but you always find it in your hearts to forgive one another.
12. You appreciate all the romantic gestures that gin makes for you
It happens all the time - literally all the time. And you haven’t failed to notice how it gently whispers your name when you open the bottle.
To all those naysayers claiming it’s just “air escaping from the bottle” - they don’t know gin like you do.
13. You’re not afraid to experiment together
You feel comfortable enough with one another to try out new things, whether that’s a dash of hibiscus, a sprig of lavender, or an extra-special sloe number.
14. You just know
When you know, you know.
