With the nights getting darker and the mornings colder, we could all do with a little pick me up
We weren't exactly cheered when we opened the papers this morning to read that some researchers have done a survey to compile a list of the top ten songs guaranteed to make you shed a tear.

There's nothing wrong with having a good old fashioned weep to REM's Everybody Hurts or Eric Clapton's Tears In Heaven (numbers one and two on the list, incidentally). But frankly we've got enough to feel glum about with the nights drawing in and Christmas decorations appearing in shop windows, without having to plug ourselves into iPod gloom too.
So we've put together a playlist of songs that would challenge underused cheek muscles. Headlining is Birdhouse In Your Soul, followed by a healthy dose of Chesney Hawkes, Queen and Lily Allen. Feargal Sharkey also makes a surprise appearance, as does R Kelly - a special request by one of our web writers.
You'll need a Spotify account to listen (click here to be directed to the 'get a free Spotify account' page), and we've made our playlist collaborative, so you can add your own picks in there too - we'll be monitoring closely and deleting any tunes that don't make us grin.
