Based on a powerful true story, Beautiful Boy explores one family’s journey from addiction to redemption. And Timothée Chalamet is in it…
What would you do to protect your son? That’s the question posed in Beautiful Boy – a gripping, tender real-life drama about one family’s enduring love and commitment in the face of addiction.
By all accounts, Nic (Timothée Chalamet) is a popular, happy kid with a strong relationship with his father (Steve Carell), an acclaimed journalist.
But when Nic ends up hooked on crystal meth, his decline pushes him away from his loving family, which throws everything David thought about parenthood on its head.
This is a film anchored by two compelling turns from actors at the top of their game. Carell (The Big Short, Foxcatcher) grips as a father who learns that addiction doesn’t discriminate while Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird) has an unbridled charm that plays against Nic’s deceptions as he tries to survive without drugs.
In fact, Chalamet is so riveting he’s already been nominated for a Golden Globe.
From the producers behind 12 Years A Slave and Moonlight, and adapted from bestselling memoirs by author David Sheff and his son Nic, Beautiful Boy unfolds as two stories told from two perspectives.
By merging the different points of view, Nic’s experience as an addict feels fully rounded, as we see how one person’s actions impact on everyone around them.
Beautiful Boy is a moving portrait of addiction and the power of love, and a must-see ahead of the awards season.
