Due to popular demand, the Frida Kahlo exhibition is here to stay (for a bit longer) – with a special addition, too.
From the way she used her decorative prosthetic leg to bring disabilities into the mainstream to the way in which she rocked a monobrow, going against societal beauty standards, Frida Kahlo’s rebellious spirit continues to fascinate us today.
And, of course, there was her unique personal style.
But everyone knows that she was an incredible painter first and foremost.
Which is why after the Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up exhibition was announced at the Victoria & Albert Museum earlier this year, people have since flocked to see it. It’s been so popular, that it’s now been extended by a further two weeks until 18 November. So, if you haven’t been to see it yet, you’re now in with a chance of getting your hands on some tickets.
So far, the exhibition has seen over 200,000 visitors come to see an insight into the Mexican painter’s life.
And the best part? A 48-hour opening of the show will coincide with the Mexican festival, Day of the Dead, allowing Kahlo fans to attend the exhibition overnight. Basically, the show will be open from 10am on 2 November to 10pm on 4 November.
In case you needed another reason to mark it in your calendar, the annual festival – which celebrates the dead – will feature Mexican artists Humberto Spinolda, DJ sets, workshops and a traditional ofrenda (altar) dedicated to Kahlo.
From bottomless Kahlo-themed brunches to brilliant exhibitions, let’s continue to celebrate Kahlo’s incredible work.
Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up will run at the V&A Museum until Sunday 18 November. You can book tickets here.
