Channel 4’s First Dates has been something of an emotional rollercoaster this series: we cried for 90-year-old Raymon when he spoke candidly about feeling lonely, we sat up and paid attention to domestic abuse survivor Bonnie, and cheered on Emma when she confronted the man who dumped her by text.

And now we have completely lost our hearts to alopecia sufferer Eve Betts, who bravely removed her wig in the First Dates restaurant on the Tuesday 9 May.

The beauty therapist was wearing a long dark wig when she was paired up with Jordan – but felt inspired to remove it when her dinner partner revealed that he used to wear a topknot.

Explaining that it was the first time she had ever revealed her hair loss on a first date, she said: “I’ve got alopecia – so my hair just randomly falls out.”

Lifting the wig away from her head, Eve smiled at Jordan.

“Oh wow,” he said softly. “It suits you.”

Eve, touched by the outpouring of support, took to Twitter to send her own message.

“Thank you everyone for your messages of support and all the love (cringe),” she wrote. “I do appreciate it so SO much.”

Alopecia is, according to Alopecia UK, a “general term used for hair loss; this can be a small bald patch on the head or the loss of all the hair over the entire body”.
