“My heart felt like broken glass”: this schoolboy's note to his crush is ridiculously poetic

“My heart felt like broken glass until I saw you.”
Not a song lyric (well not yet, anyway), but the rather grand words of a love-struck fifth grader, whose earnest message of adoration is now being shared online.
Uploaded by a Reddit user who said it was sent to his niece Abby, the heart-strewn letter (which you can read in full below) goes on to compare her to collecting Pokémon (come on, that’s huge) and spell out one of the qualities the writer loves about her, which turns out to be Abby not concerning herself with what people think of her gaming taste – our kind of girl.
The anonymous author, thought to be about 10 or 11 years old (fifth grade is primary school year five in the UK), declares:
“Your eyes remind me of the evening sky. My heart felt like broken glass until I saw you, and then I felt like I had every Pokémon ever. I love how you play Zelda even when people think it's weird. If you liked me it would be my first ever victory.”
The poster revealed that while Abby “declined” his affections, they “remain friends and they continue to talk about Zelda in art class”.
Romance may have fallen at the first hurdle, but the kid might have a future in creative writing – as one user commented: “No need to cover the name, clearly Shakespeare.”
