Go online, and you’ll soon be confronted with the ‘manosphere’: social media content, podcasts and blogs where men rail against feminism and promote a retrograde version of masculinity. In response, more and more women are now creating anti-male digital communities – from female incel networks to advice sites run by controversial dating coaches. But while women’s anger in the face of rising misogyny is valid, the solutions offered by the femosphere are not the answer, says Cécile Simmons, author of new book Ctrl Hate Delete: The New Anti-Feminist Backlash And How We Fight It.
