On International Day of the Girl, stylist.co.uk relocated to Blenheim High School. A team of brilliant and opinionated girls aged 11 to 16 took over the website to have their say on the issues that matters most to them.
With so many great films to pick from, it can be difficult to select one as your all time favourite. But it proved to be a question that the young girls of Blenheim High School could answer with ease.
On 11 October, to honour the UN’s International Day of the Girl 2018, we went into Blenheim High School in Surrey to pose such a question and many more to the young women of today. Not only did we ask them questions about today’s issues, but we also handed over control of stylist.co.uk. The girls, all aged 11 to 16, pitched news stories, spoke passionately about the sports they enjoy and discussed the issues that irk them in 2018.
Find out below their favourite films of all time – some may surprise you.
1) Rocky
“I watch and I feel like I can do anything. It inspired me to start boxing.
“I also love the theme tune.”
Mia, 11
2) The Rat Race
“It’s really funny and makes me feel happy after a bad day.”
Neerdha, 11
3) The Meg
“I love the twist in the middle.”
Paulina, 11
4) The Jane Austen Book Club
“I find all the women really inspiring, and I love how they work through their issues by reading the books.”
Joely, 12
5) Casino Royale
“I love how action-packed this film is.”
Danielle, 16
6) The Goonies
“The kids in the film get to have a proper childhood - no phones or internet. Like most coming-of-age films from the Eighties, they just get to be kids unlike children today. They ride their bikes and they wear what they want. It’s the same great childhood my mum got to have.”
Mollie, 16
7) Mamma Mia!
8) Searching
“It makes me feel sad, but it also inspires me.
“The film centres around one family, who are searching for their daughter who’s gone missing. It makes me feel grateful for my own parents and the love we share.”
Sarah, 12
9) The Hunger Games
“When you first watch it, you don’t know what’s going to happen, so I really love all the twists in the film.
“I also really like the lead female character. She’s cool.”
Scarlett, 11
