Prepare for more dark humour and probing of big issues.
We’re big fans of The End Of The F***ing World here, and not just because of its funny writing.
The show, which was adapted from a graphic novel, deftly tackled some big topics during its first season, which aired initially on Channel 4’s streaming service All4 before making its way on to Netflix.
One of the highlights of the first series came when the show addressed consent, and a person’s right to change their mind about having sex.

After the show’s protagonists, Alyssa (Jessica Barden) and James (Alex Lawther), have an argument, Alyssa meets Topher (Alex Sawyer) and brings him back to the house for sex. But by the time they get to the bedroom, Alyssa has changed her mind, and despite being faced with anger and then flattery from Topher, asks him to repeat her “changing my mind and f**k off, please”.
Later in the series, while Alyssa and James are kissing, she experiences a distressing flashback and asks James to wait. His response - “yeah, of course” - and the show’s look at consent found legions of fans on Twitter.
We have no doubt that those fans will be happy to know that the show is back on our screens - soon. Here’s everything we know about series two of The End Of The F***ing World.
What is The End Of The F***ing World about?
The End Of The F***ing World is adapted from a graphic novel by Charles Foreman, which follows teenagers James and Alyssa as they face the fears of oncoming adulthood. The graphic novel alternates chapters between the pair: James becomes rapidly more sociopathic as he and Alyssa are forced to take a road trip that threatens both of their futures forever.
In the show’s first eight episodes we got to know James and Alyssa as they got to know each other. Believing he’s a psychopath, James decides to kill Alyssa, a rebellious new school mate. But when Alyssa tells him she wants to leave town, he resolves to kill her another time, and steals his dad’s car so the pair can escape.
How did season one of The End Of The F***ing World end?
In the third episode of season one, James killed serial rapist Clive Koch in order to save Alyssa from a violent sexual assault. The teens removed any evidence of their stay from Koch’s house and went on the run, during which they stopped at a patrol station and pretended to have a gun when an employee recognised them from a police appeal.

James and Alyssa made their way to Alyssa’s father Leslie’s house, and asked him if they could take his boat and leave the country. Realising that Leslie had reported them to the police, James confessed to killing Koch. When Alyssa realises that confessing to manslaughter wouldn’t mean she and James could be together, she knocked out a police officer and ran to the boat with James. With police closing in, James knocked Alyssa down in an attempt to take all the blame and ran across the beach. As the scene faded to black, a gunshot was heard.
What will season two of The End Of The F***ing World be about?
According to Netflix, series two will deal will see Alyssa dealing with “the fallout of the events of the first series”.
Who is in season two?
It’s been confirmed that Jessica Barden will be returning as Alyssa, but (spoiler alert!) IMDB doesn’t list Alex Lawther’s James as being part of the second series.
We will be introduced to a new character though, in the form of Bonnie, played by Naomi Ackie, who has been in Lady Macbeth and will be in the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. Bonnie is described as “an outsider with a troubled past and a mysterious connection to Alyssa”.
Is there a trailer for season two?
Yes! And it begins with a voiceover from Alyssa, who says: “My name’s Alyssa, I’m 19 and I thought I’d already had the shittest day of my life.”
Over an image of Alyssa trying on a gown in a shop, she adds: “But this is actually worse.”
We see Alyssa working in a cafe, and also meet Bonnie.
