While the emoji offering is becoming more diverse and inclusive with every IOS update, there's still plenty of situations where even the most fluent emoji users feel like the Unicode keyboard is failing them.

Hence why plenty of emoji-enthusiasts have taken upon themselves to design their own offering (remember Bodyform's period emojis? And these hijab emojis?).

Now, grandmother Diane Hill, has joined the fight for diverse emojis with the hope of creating some that are more accessible to the older generation.

The 56-year-old from Coventry has created her own emojis to reflect life for over 50s as part of the BBC outreach project about how the media reflects the people and places.

Artist Chris Oxenbury was commissioned to design the graphics, which include back pain, bingo, a disapproving look and losing your false teeth. They've been nicknamed 'emoldjis' and Hill told the BBC she thought the designs were "fantastic" when she first laid eyes on them.

If Unicode approves of the emojis they could take a year to land on our keyboards, though as Siobhan Harrison, from the Open Doors project at BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, points out: "at least she has raised some interesting issues about how the media reflect older people's lives and had some fun along the way."
