An Avengers-style Disney princesses film could be coming to our screens

After bringing a series of empowered, diverse female characters to screen, Disney have drastically improved the girl power of their princesses of late.

So we could only imagine how incredible it would be if the squad of female Disney royalty joined forces for an Avengers-style film.

The blockbuster studio is reportedly keen on the script, penned by newcomer Nir Paniry, and if that means we get to see the likes of Moana, Elsa and Princess Tiana in combined force, then we’re certainly all ears.

However, while women would be leading the way on screen, behind the scenes it appears to be a little lacking in the gender stakes.

Joachim Ronning, the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is attached to direct and the project will also feature a male producer.

As women comprise just 7% of the directors in Hollywood, Californian studios across the board are seriously trailing behind in closing the gender gap.

All eyes are on Disney after the studio was accused of ‘whitewashing’ the upcoming live-action Mulan.

A leaked script of the remake described one of the market traders as European, despite the story telling the tale of a Chinese warrior.

A mere 112,000 signatures on an online petition later, an industry insider reportedly told Vanity Fair that the live-action remake would stay true to the story’s roots.

“The spec script was a jumping-off point for a new take on the story that draws from both the literary ballad of Mulan and Disney’s 1998 animated film.

Mulan is and will always be the lead character in the story, and all primary roles, including the love interest, are Chinese.”

The last Disney film, Moana, featured a Polynesian chief-to-be saving her people. Unlike previous princess-centred remakes, Moana made waves as the first female character to not have a love interest in a feature.
