Are you ready for this?

Ready or not, Dirty Dancing is being remade for TV.

US network ABC has announced it's making a three-hour adaptation of the iconic coming-of-age film - a move that has been met with a mixed reaction from fans of the beloved classic:

Little Miss Sunshine and Scream Queens star Abigail Breslin, 19, has been cast as Baby Houseman, memorably played by Jennifer Grey in the original.

Baby's love interest, dance instructor Johnny Castle, was brilliantly portrayed by the late Patrick Swayze in the 1987 classic and ABC has not yet settled on an actor to tackle the role.

The TV take will have a key connection to the original - Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the film's screenplay, is acting as executive producer.

American Horror Story's Jessica Sharzer will write the small screen musical and Wayne Blair (The SapphiresSeptembers of Shiraz) is on board to direct.

It hasn't been confirmed when the show will air - or whether it will recreate this classic line:

More memorable quotes from Dirty Dancing:

“Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you.” - Baby

“Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” - Johnny

“Oh, come on, ladies. God wouldn’t have given you maracas if He didn’t want you to shake ’em.” - Penny

“This is my dance space. This is your dance space. I don’t go into yours, you don’t go into mine.” - Johnny

“Where is my beige iridescent lipstick?” - Lisa

Big screen '80s classics we'd like to see remade for TV:

Breakfast Club

Could an ensemble cast of modern Hollywood stars do it justice?

Three Men and a Baby

We have a soft spot for this cute comedy.

Working Girl

Set in modern day New York, with fewer power suits?
