Ever since we heard that Patricia Highsmith's revolutionary novel Carol was to be made into a film, we've been eagerly awaiting the trailer.
Starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as lesbian lovers, and set against the irresistibly glamorous backdrop of 1950s New York, Carol looks likely to be one of the year's biggest films - and this teaser trailer certainly doesn't disappoint.
The film stars Blanchett in the role of Carol, an elegant Manhattan socialite who crosses paths with young store worker Therese, played by Rooney Mara. The two fall quickly in love and embark on an impassioned affair that changes both of their lives forever.
Directed by Todd Haynes, the film debuted at Cannes to rave reviews earlier this year and won Mara the best-actress award. It has also been hotly tipped for the Oscars.
Patricia Highsmith, who was catapulted to fame in the fifties after publication of her first novel Strangers on a Train, took inspiration for Carol from her own life, basing Blanchett's character on a wealthy customer in a fur coat who visited the department store she worked at.
Originally published under a pseudonym in 1952, and titled The Price of Salt, the novel was revolutionary at the time for being a lesbian romance story with a relatively happy ending.
Carol will be released in cinemas in the UK in November this year.
