Not sure what game to play today? Here are the ones that Team Stylist come back to year after year.

Christmas Day has finally arrived, and if you’re anything like us, you’re looking forward to a day full of celebration and plenty of mince pies.

But what to do after you’ve finished your Christmas dinner? Once you’ve had your fill of turkey and wine, it’s all too tempting to go for a nap (and we’d never judge you for that – go wild). However, if you’re looking for something different, playing a game can be a great way to get everyone together before you sit down for Gavin & Stacey in the evening.

Need some inspiration for what to play today? Here, Team Stylist reveal the games that they love to play year after year, for the perfect amount of family fun this Christmas.

“We play the kids’ version of Cards Against Humanity, mainly because my niece and nephew think it’s the funniest thing in the world to see my mum fail to hold it together. I’ve also bought Code Names to play this year as I just love organised fun.”

Helen Bownass, entertainment director

“Monopoly Deal is the ultimate card game in our household. We have quite a small family, and it’s perfect for the six of us and much quicker than the board game version, which we never end up finishing. The feeling when you lay down a ‘dealbreaker’ card and steal all their property cards is unbeaten…”

Sophie Boyden, social media lead

“My mum likes to buy a cheesy ‘pass the parcel’ game from the supermarket, which we play after we finish Christmas lunch. It’s a really funny table activity and my dog absolutely loves to watch the parcel go around the table, which is so cute.”

Lauren Geall, senior writer

“Our family (but specifically my dad) loves sticking the names of famous people on our backs as soon as we walk through the front door. We then have to spend all of Christmas Day guessing who we are, which is always fun.”

Georgia Green, writer

“I don’t normally play games for Christmas or Hanukkah, but this year I’ve been inspired by our Team Stylist Christmas party, and I’m putting together a quiz. I’m heading to my boyfriend’s family, so I’m excited to see what they think of it!”

Susanne Norris, deputy digital editor

“I come from a family where board games are pretty much banned – the atmosphere is far too volatile to throw a five-hour monopoly game into the mix. However, my husband and I love playing Monopoly and over the past few Christmases have had huge games with his relatives that last for hours and involve umpteen bottles of wine. Sadly, they’re too savvy for me, so I’m yet to win.

“However, I always win at Scrabble, so this year I’ll be challenging them all to a game. I just love that you can play it anytime, anywhere and it doesn’t last too long but really gets your brain working – the ideal thing for the post-Christmas dinner lull.”

Miranda Larbi, strong women editor

“Scattergories is the game that gets everyone in my family going on Christmas Day. We take it very seriously, with my mum as the official judge who decides whether your answers stand or not. Not to brag, but I’m currently the family reigning champion and hope to maintain my crown this year (and every year after).”

Amy Beecham, senior features writer

“We love to play Articulate towards the end of Christmas Day. There are usually 10 or 12 of us, and as everyone is rather merry, we end up all talking (or shouting) really fast. It always ends up with everyone howling with laughter and there isn’t usually a winning team, but it’s just really good fun.”
