Woman pens brutally honest open letter to her best friend’s ex-husband

They say that friends give you a shoulder to cry on. Best friends, on the other hand, might be ready with a shovel to hurt the person that made you cry. Or, at the very least, ready to sit down and pen the the most brilliant and expletive-laden letter of all time.

An anonymous woman (let’s call her Charlotte, for ease) has done just that, writing a brutally honest missive to her BFF’s ex-husband. And, since sharing it on scarymommy.com, she’s been hailed as a hero all over the internet.

“This divorce is your fault,” she writes bluntly. “You hurt my friend, you lied to my friend, and you betrayed my friend.”

While ‘Charlotte’ says her pal is handling the breakdown of her marriage “like the strong, resilient, compassionate badass that she is”, she’s clear on one thing: she doesn’t have to show any understanding or compassion for the other party whatsoever.

“I get to pull the Best Friend Card here,” she writes, “and I get to be p**sed the f**k off that you are the catalyst for the heartbreak, pain, anxiety, and overwhelming stress that you are causing my friend.

“So, F**K YOU DUDE.”

Charlotte goes on to reveal that her best friend shares a home and a family with the man who wronged her.

“She’s putting aside her pain to put the need of your kids ahead of her need to have you move out immediately,” she says, revealing all of the ways that the former couple are continuing to co-parent successfully together.

“[My friend] has to share space with you as you attend basketball games, awards assemblies, recitals, and science fair presentations. She has to help your children process their anger, hurt, and confusion. She has to encourage them to forgive you and recognize that you are still the same adoring father they’ve always cherished. She has to convince them that she will be okay, so that they do not lose sleep worrying about their mama.”

Dubbing her friend a “f**king pillar of dignity and strength”, Charlotte fires off a series of “f**k you” messages to the husband who betrayed her.

“F**k you for making her own value and self-worth,” she says. “You can understand why I want to junk-punch you hella hard. You can understand why I kind of want to call you up and be like, ‘I HOPE YOUR NEW HOUSE HAS ROACHES. SO MANY ROACHES. I HOPE IT RAINS ROACHES. But only when your kids are not there, of course. Okay, bye f**ker.’”

While the letter doesn’t clarify what form the husband’s ‘betrayal’ took, it is resoundingly clear that he screwed up in a very big way – and that he has left a lot of people feeling emotionally raw.

But there is, of course, a happy ending for Charlotte’s friend; she has an incredible friend to lift her up through the bad times, support her choices, validate her feelings and, above all else, “show up with takeout and cheap wine”.

It is for this reason that Charlotte knows her BFF will be happy again some day – and come out of the situation stronger than ever.

The ex, however? Well, that’s a different story.

“If you get a shipping compartment full of roaches, don’t call me,” she concludes. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. F**ker.”
