Summer means many things. Light evenings. Barbeques. Pitchers of Pimm’s loaded with ice, fruit and mint. The sticky-sweet smell of hot tarmac. Cotton sundresses. Day drinking. Bald men with sunburned heads.

In Britain in 2017, it also means boozy popsicles. The UK has fallen in love with summery drinks in frozen form: ice pop extraordinaries POPS recently announced that they have added a Pimm’s flavour to their roster, while several UK brands now offer push-pops in flavours from peach bellini to gin and tonic.

Here, we’ve rounded up the best alcoholic ice cream treats money can buy. Get licked.

1) POPS Pimm’s ice popsicles

These lollies are made from Pimm’s, lemonade, cucumber, strawberries and mint, just like the real stuff. Order yours online – or Londoners can swing by Selfridges Roof Deck and Selfridges food hall to pick up a carton.  

They’ll also be on sale at Darwin & Wallace bars in London, Henley Royal Regatta and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

2) POPS prosecco popsicles

UK company POPS are also behind these boozy push-pops, which come in flavours including Prosecco and Peach Bellini and Classic Champagne. Frosé (rosé and raspberry) popsicles are also available – as well as more complex cocktails in frosty form, such as Moscow Mule and vodka watermelon martini.

All of POPS’ popsicles come in at around 4% abv, and are stocked at restaurants, hotels and bars around the UK – or you can order them online.

3) Aldi’s gin and tonic ice lollies

Supermarket chain Aldi has unveiled two new alco-popsicles in time for summer 2017. We’ve tried both, and our favourite is the gin and tonic flavour – although we wouldn’t say no to another lick of a prosecco and peach Bellini lolly, either.

4) Fortnum & Mason’s champagne pops

These luxury popsicles are the poshest way of cooling down possible. They’re currently available in four flavours: Classic Champagne, Rosé Champagne, Kir Royale and Summer Cup (frozen London dry gin and Pedro Ximinez sherry, blended with Moroccan mint, chai and Earl Grey teas).

5) LIC’s frozen Mojito cocktails

Alcohol is notoriously difficult to freeze, but the engineering student duo behind LIC found a way to do it. Each of these frozen Mojito cocktails contains fresh mint, zingy lime and a 25ml shot of Caribbean rum, to make what the company's founders describe as “the most awesome summer product, since, well, the bikini.”

6) Jude’s gin and tonic ice cream

Feel good about yourself while indulging in Jude’s Ice Cream: it’s made in Hampshire with milk from local cows, is Vegetarian Society approved, and 10% of all profits go to charity. This gin and tonic ice cream is flavoured with a dash of Sipsmith London Dry Gin, for a scoop that’s simultaneously creamy and zingy – a perfect summer combination.

7) Drunken Dairy’s Sex Bomb ice cream

At less than 2% abv, you’d have to eat quite a lot of this orange and amaretto sorbet to get tipsy – but that’s fine by us. Drunken Dairy ice creams pop up at food festivals and events all over London, so keep an eye on their website for where they’re headed next.
