A 30-year-old pilot from India has become the youngest ever woman to captain a Boeing 777, The Times of India reports.

Anny Divya, who works as a pilot for Air India, has spoken out about her achievement and touchingly described how her parents helped her fulfill her childhood dream of flying planes.

“From a child, I always wanted to be a pilot, although I didn’t have much guidance on how to become a pilot,” she said in a video recorded for Indian news show Mirror Now.

“My parents have always been very supportive even though there were people telling them not to send me to flying lessons and the fees were a lot for them to pay at that time, but they managed.”

Even better, Captain Divya described how she turned down the opportunity to fly a Boeing 737, which is a smaller jet, in order to wait and fulfill her dream of flying the Boeing 777.

The airliner, which is commonly referred to as the “Triple Seven”, is the world’s largest twinjet. It can seat up to 396 passengers and was the first commercial aircraft to be designed entirely with computer-aided design.

Captain Divya was just 19 when she completed her pilot training, and she has been working at Air India since 2006.

She is now keen to help other young women who want to become pilots achieve their goals, and has even posted a brief guide to becoming a commercial pilot on her Facebook page:
