If you’re already itching to redecorate ahead of the new year, be sure to take inspiration from Google’s Year in Search report, which has declared the top paint and interiors shades you need to know for 2025.
Your Christmas decorations may still be up for another few weeks yet, but there’s a high likelihood that you’re already thinking about the ways you want to decorate your home in the new year. But where do we begin?
Between the Pantone and Dulux colours of the year (mocha mousse and true joy, fyi) and Pinterest’s prediction that cherry red will be the shade we’re all buying, wearing and decorating with in 2025, there’s no shortage of interior inspiration to get us started. And now Google’s Year in Search has revealed the top trending paint shades set to surge in popularity as we refresh our spaces.
From earthy rust effect paints to opulent ivories, whether you take a neutral approach to interiors or prefer to take dopamine decor to the next level, be sure to take inspiration from this list when approaching your new year renovations.
Stone effect paint
Coming out on top as the most searched-for paint shade is a stone effect, a subtle hue that creates a muted limestone aesthetic. Perfect for cosy season and adding a finishing touch to any Scandinavian-inspired room.
Light blue paint
Following close behind is a sky blue shade, ideal for bringing a sense of calm and serenity to kitchens, bathrooms or bedrooms.
Rust-effect paint
Traditionally, rust is something most of us try to avoid in our homes, but clearly not when it comes to decorating. A wall covered with a patina-aged copper effect is sure to bring visual intrigue and create a bold, eye-catching statement.
Mushroom-colour paint
Deep chocolate browns may have been a huge fashion trend this year, but its softer, more neutral cousin is taking over the world of interiors. From sofas and blinds to bedding and walls, mushroom is a classic and gentle shade to add to any space.

Whitewash paint
Whitewashing has been a popular furniture trend in recent years, but did you know you can use paint for the same effect on your walls? Embrace your inner coastal grandmother and go wild.
Opulent ivory paint
For a spa-like aesthetic in your own home, opulent ivory is a warmer, more interesting alternative to more clinical white shades. Mix and match it with a bolder colour, like rust, to add contrast to any room.
Green beige paint
Ideal for when you want to add a splash of colour to your interiors without being too bold, this green-beige hybrid shade offers a balanced neutral for earthy, open spaces.
Butterscotch paint
Take inspiration from the classic confection itself and add some rich, buttery golden tones into your room through a statement wall or butterscotch-tinted accessories like mirrors and frames.
Hot pink paint
Barbiecore is clearly showing no signs of slowing down in popularity, as searches for ‘hot pink paint’ ranked highly in 2024 and will continue to surge into the new year. Our favourite way to incorporate it? A perfectly kitschy Barbie-inspired kitchen, of course.
Lemon paint
Usher in feelings of freshness, brighter days and Italian sunshine by embracing lemon shades throughout your home. During the dark, gloomy days of January, we need all the lightness we can get.
Coral paint
Finally, bright coral hues are going to be gracing our walls and bringing us joy throughout 2025. Contrast painted furniture against plain walls or drench the whole room in colour – the choice is yours.
