Pink and green, aka strawberry matcha, is the latest trending colour combination for spring. Here, an interiors expert explains its appeal – and how best to incorporate it into your home.

When it comes to decorating your space, some colour combinations just work – black and white, for example, or red and pink and brown and beige – and then there are others that, at first, don’t seem to suit at all, but you quickly realise that they’re a match made in interiors heaven.

This spring, decor trends are all about artful colour-clashing throughout your home. Enter: strawberry matcha, the combination of soft pink and rich green that has seen a 5,000% surge in Google searches compared to last year.

Not convinced? Imagine a fresh green rug paired with soft pink furnishings for a refined yet inviting contrast, or green and pink tableware that blends warmth with vibrancy.

“The strawberry matcha trend refers to a style that’s romantic, flirtatious and slightly playful,” explains Jodie Hatton, design manager at heritage carpet company Brintons. “Think soft blush hues, vintage-inspired furniture, green patterned rugs and dainty accents. It’s about creating a space that feels inviting.”

According to Hatton, one of the best ways to effortlessly infuse your home with the strawberry matcha trend is to consider selecting floral rugs in gentle pinks. “These rugs, both practical and elegant, will lend a sense of dimension to your space, while the soft blush hue will elevate the strawberry look,” she explains. “You can then complement this choice with floor fillers in soft greens and delicate curved furnishings in neutral tones, such as a sumptuous white bouclé sofa paired with a glass table adorned with delicate trinkets.”

As we continue to embrace colour in our homes in more unexpected ways, strawberry matcha is set to be one of the year’s defining palettes. Get in on the trend early with our curated list of the best homeware pieces to shop now.
