From romantic motifs to our ever-growing love of all things nostalgic, these are the stationery trends set to be on all our wishlists this year.
Who can deny the allure of a fresh, unmarked notebook? Our love for cute stationery knows no bounds, not least because an adorable new diary or weekly planner makes for the perfect affordable pick-me-up and helps us feel like we’ve got our act together. When you can pass off an indulgent buy as a ‘useful purchase’, that’s girl math at its finest.
But just as with fashion and interiors, trends come and go in the world of stationery, too. Molly Park, chief product officer at Papier, has shared with us her top predictions for what we’re all going to be lusting after this year. Purchase now, and be the envy of all your friends later.
Romantic motifs
In 2025, stationery is all about finding comfort and joy in the little things. After years of bold, statement designs, we’re seeing a shift towards softer, more nostalgic aesthetics that feel playful yet deeply sentimental. Think dreamy, romantic motifs, hand-drawn cherries, whimsical clovers, delicate florals and even a hint of lace.
Slow living
This year, gentle optimism is leading the way. People are searching for ways to slow down and connect more meaningfully. Stationery isn’t just about function anymore; it’s about finding calm, embracing slower moments and rediscovering joy offline. Soft, delicate colour palettes and thoughtful designs are setting the tone, echoing the ‘soft living’ movement that’s shaping fashion, interiors and, now, the way we put pen to paper.
Sensory experiences
In a digital-first world, people are craving sensory experiences that screens can’t replicate. Expect more textured papers, die-cut edges and embossed finishes.
A recipe for nostalgia
Recipe journals are having a moment, with a 68% increase in sales year on year – and we expect the trend to keep growing. They’re a beautifully nostalgic gift that feels personal and thoughtful. In fact, 45% of people we surveyed said gifting a journal is the most meaningful present they could give. It’s not just about the food – it’s about capturing the memories of meals shared and recipes passed down through generations. People are especially drawn to the charming food-inspired designs, with hanging fruits and al fresco topping the favourites list.
Turning memories into keepsakes
Photobooks are making a heartfelt comeback. They’re more than just a collection of images – they’re a way to tell stories and preserve memories in a deeply personal way. In a world of fleeting digital photos, photobooks offer a chance to reflect and relive treasured moments. The numbers tell the story: photobook orders are up by 53% year on year, and 62% of people we surveyed said organising their photos is on their 2025 to-do list.
Picture-perfect invitations
The picture trends don’t stop there. When it comes to wedding trends, couples are looking for ways to make their wedding stationery truly personal – and what better way than with a photo that tells their story? In 2024, photo-based wedding products – including save the dates, invitations, thank you cards and photobooks – saw a 90% increase in orders, showing just how much people love adding a heartfelt touch. Photo designs are now featured in three of Papier’s top 10 bestsellers for invitations, with couples choosing images from engagement shoots, memorable holidays or moments doing something they love together. It’s all about sharing a piece of their journey.
