Planning a home refresh next year but not sure what colours, textures or pieces to use? These are the trends to look out for.
We’ve all been there – the new year arrives and you’re looking to change something up a bit. Maybe it’s starting a new fitness regime, committing to Dry January or planning your next holiday. Or, maybe, it’s giving your home some much-needed TLC. Whether it’s picking a new colour to paint the living room or simply planning to refresh some decor, this is a key time of the year to start thinking about how you want to update your home.
Need some inspiration? From the colours that will dominate to key pieces to incorporate, these are the interior trends that will be huge for 2025…
Cherry red
Interiors fans always look forward to Pinterest’s predictions for the year to come. According to the brand, cherry red will be a key colour for 2025. Gen Z and millennials, in particular, are fans of the trend, with ‘cherry red bedroom’ seeing a 100% rise on Pinterest.
Maximalism
Whether it’s bold wallpaper or abstract decor, expert consensus is that maximalism is here to stay. “As we move into 2025, I expect maximalism to refine itself — evolving into a style that embraces bold colours, vibrant patterns and playful elements paired with more curated, intentional designs, ensuring that the exuberance of maximalism feels purposeful rather than chaotic,” says Marianne Shillingford, creative director at Dulux. “The trend’s longevity will hinge on its ability to blend the energy and happiness of dopamine-inspired interiors with thoughtful layering, creating spaces that spark joy without overwhelming the senses.”

Stripes
John Lewis has also released its trend forecasting for 2025 and stripes are set to go from strength to strength. The retailer saw a 37% rise in stripes across a range of homeware items – from curtains and cushions to vases and lampshades – and expects the demand to continue for a while to come.
Greens
John Lewis also predicts green homeware will continue to be popular in 2025, with sales of green-hued products up 16% and green sofas up a huge 37%.
Dulux has also seen a rise in the popularity of green shades across its paint range. “Green has enjoyed an impressive run, and I see no signs of it fading in 2025 says Shillingford. “[We’ll see] all shades – from softer, more muted tones to bolder, deeper hues.”

Multi-functional furniture
If you’re searching for new pieces for your space, look for furniture that can be used in a multitude of ways. “Pieces that are designed to provide functionality and maximise space are key for every home,” says property expert Amanda Lamb. “Sofa beds, extendable dining tables and modular shelving units all provide that bit extra. Urban living is getting smaller so anything that can help to create a home but also give you options to continue to grow in 2025.”
Neutrals
While 2024 has been dominated by bright and bold colours (and the trend is very much here to stay for 2025), balancing these vibrant hues with neutrals will be a key trend for the upcoming year. “As the world becomes more sustainability-conscious, neutral tones allow for easy updates to a space without feeling outdated,” says Shillingford. “These neutrals will complement the more vibrant trends, providing balance and grounding in a design palette. Their versatility will keep them relevant for years to come.”
