Looking to make a big interior décor change for the new year? Western gothic is the predicted trend you’re going to want to know about.
According to the latest Pinterest Predicts report, the numbers they crunched behind the scenes over at the social media platform suggest that what they’re calling the Western gothic interiors trend is going to hit it big this year. This is thanks to search terms like ‘Western gothic’ going up by 145%, and ‘Western bedding ideas’ rising by 310%.
The Western gothic vibe is all about vintage Americana, with deep, dark paint colours and even darker fringes. Think Dolly Parton crossed with Siouxsie and the Banshees. It’s edgy, it’s moody, but it’s also plush and cosy, with lots of textures around to play around with.
Emily Simmons, creative director at interiors brand Ruggable, says: “The western gothic trend takes inspiration from the American ranch life, remixed with dark, industrial elements. Key features include moody colour palettes, leather fabrics, faux cowhide prints, and edgier furniture and décor, which can be easily incorporated into your interiors for an on-trend look.”
If you want to get the look nailed down for your home, Simmons says there are three simple ways to get started.
“Firstly,” she explains, “when choosing your colour palette for a western gothic room, use black as your main colour and then opt for some softer shades, such as greys, beiges, or bruised blues. The softer dark shades will help create a moody atmosphere, lending well to the gothic theme.”

Then you’ll want to work some natural materials like wood, jute rugs and rattan into the space. Bonus points if any of these natural materials are black. “This will naturally tie together the gothic vibes and the western look,” Simmons adds.
And for her final piece of advice, Simmons recommends working some leathery fabrics and fun faux cow prints into the room.
“Think leather furniture, fringed curtains and faux cowhide printed furnishings like rugs and cushions to hint at the cowboy style and complete the perfect western gothic interior look,” she says.
