Modern meets vintage with this captivating kitchenware trend. Shop everything from slick Scandi jugs to retro-inspired stainless steel cappuccino cups with our edit of the best in stainless steel kitchenware.
Stainless steel kitchenware is having a bit of a moment, with stylish pitcher jugs, minimalist lunchboxes, polished cafetieres, and – our favourite – Bettina Ceramica’s 70s-inspired cappuccino cup, saucer and sugar bowl all flying the flag for the sleek, industrial look.
Homeware label Bettina Ceramica was founded in 2021 by London-based Natalie Sytner, who named the business after her Ligurian mother. The brand pays homage to her Italian heritage with statement home accessories inspired by traditional Italian ceramics but with a contemporary edge. Her stainless steel collection, the brand’s first pieces outside of ceramics, is no different.
“I was always a big fan of stainless steel growing up,” says Sytner. My parents had quite a contemporary style, which definitely influenced me, and my main interest is really in modern and vintage designs but with a clean aesthetic. My dream for the house we just renovated was to have a kitchen by Alpes Inox [the Italian brand that creates impactful stainless steel kitchens] but sadly the budget didn’t allow it. For now, though, I have scratched that itch with a great stainless steel shelving unit from a catering company that we use as a larder/storage for platters, ceramics and artwork.”
Sytner adds: “For me, it’s always about juxtaposition; our house and kitchen have a contemporary feel but still feel warm and cosy as we mix modern elements with antique artwork, framing and vintage pieces. Additions to the home, such as the stainless steel shelving, kitchen chairs with metal legs and now our stainless steel cappuccino cups, saucers and sugar bowl are a great way to mix the industrial look into your home. They feel very modern and current, but our Gia cup design is based on a set of metal cups my mother had from the 70s in Italy.”
Whether you love traditional design codes, retro-inspired pieces or minimal, Scandinavian homeware, there’s a stainless steel accessory for you. Here’s our edit of the best.
