There’s nothing quite like the new year to get you in the mood for a refresh. Whether it’s revamping your wardrobe with some on-trend colours or giving your living room a makeover with a new shade of paint, January is typically the time when trend predictions start rolling in.

But which colours will be popular this year? Pantone announced its colour of the year as ‘mocha mousse’ (a warm brown hue) while Dulux revealed ‘true joy’, a bold yellow hue, as its pick.

Now, Etsy has revealed its colour of the year: ‘lime cream’. According to the online marketplace, lime cream is a pale and soft green that provides “a dreamy, delicate shade that’s equal parts calming and uplifting”.

Explaining why lime cream had secured the colour of the year title, Etsy said: “While the beginning of 2024 was all about lime green, we’ve seen this trend taper over the past few months – searches for lime green are down by more than a third since the summer and we’re seeing less interest in neon colours overall. Instead, shoppers are now looking for softer, richer hues that set the tone for the year ahead.”

So, just how can you incorporate the look into your home? Etsy trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson says the great news is that there are plenty of ways to do it depending on what other colours you have in your space and what your personal taste preferences are. It looks great with neutrals like whites, greys and creams but can also look chic when paired with more vivid colours. “I love delicate green tones in the home, and if you’re a confident decorator, I’d advise you to be particularly bold and brave and pair lime cream with a warm orange,” says Isom Johnson. “The combination of the two shades is spectacularly striking and looks unique and elevated.”
