The playful Danish pastel trend is here to upturn all your preconceptions about Scandinavian interior style – and it’s plenty of fun.
Think Scandi style is all about muted tones, clean lines and pared-back minimalism? Well, that’s all changing. Just as fashion brands like Ganni and Stine Goya have been toying with a more maximalist look, the Scandi interiors scene has been embracing a more playful vibe of late.
Scroll through social media and you’re sure to spot soft pastel colours, squiggly mirrors, checkerboard prints and curved furniture, all thrown together for an enjoyably eclectic look. The trend has been dubbed Danish pastel in a nod to its Scandi origins, and the hashtag currently has over 451 million views on TikTok.
With its wiggly lines, sorbet shades and unexpected shapes, it’s a real contrast to the neutral-toned Japandi aesthetic (a mixture of Scandinavian and Japanese home style, bringing together functionality, minimalism and sustainability) that has dominated the interiors world recently.
This whimsical trend is also seriously fun to shop, and to get you started, we’ve picked out some of our favourite Danish pastel pieces.
Sklum side table
With its wiggly shape and baby pink hue, this playful side table will help you create that grown-up Barbie dream house look.
Habitat Studio coffee table
If you’re after a table that’s a little more understated but still ticks off all the trend’s hallmarks (like soft pastel shades and softly curved edges), opt for this Habitat Studio design instead.
Hay W&S chubby vase
If you want to get to grips with the Danish pastel aesthetic, Copenhagen-based brand Hay’s range of cheerful, sculptural vases are a good place to start. This pale yellow design was made in collaboration with creative duo Wang & Söderström.
The Happy Place pastel bubble cube soy candle
You’ll almost certainly have seen bubble cube candles cropping up on your Instagram feed. Made by hand in a studio in Wales, these ones are available in a spectrum of pastel shades, from baby blue to dusky pink.

&Klevering braid style lilac mirror
Another pleasingly nostalgic piece, this mirror from Dutch brand &Klevering looks like exactly the sort of thing that we dreamed of decorating our own space with when we were kids (albeit a much more stylish version).
Fable bud vase set
This delicate vase duo, crafted in Portugal from a blend of recycled and locally sourced clay, is the perfect showcase for smaller bouquets, or even a statement single stem.
&Klevering marshmallow end table
Yes, it’s shaped like a marshmallow. Yes, we’re obsessed. Made from fibreglass, this column table will give your vases, lamps or other interiors bits and pieces a real sense of drama.
Shop &Klevering marshmallow end table at Made In Design, £129
Sklum MDF wall shelf
Bored of soulless shelves? Try this pastel number (which is also available in lilac and sorbet shades of pink and yellow) with an eye-catching abstract shape.
