From Caribbean-inspired dishes to a modern vegan take on Indonesian cuisine, these are seven supper clubs to book this season.
Hosting a dinner party with your loved ones is always such a treat, especially at the end of a long work week. But what if you don’t fancy cooking up a whole meal or want to try a new cuisine without having to research menus and dishes before you’ve even stepped foot in a restaurant? Well, that’s where supper clubs come in.
The beauty of a supper club is that you still get to experience the dinner party vibe but with world-class food and drink from some of the best chefs out there at the moment. And they’ve become hugely popular in recent years, with many chefs and restaurants launching supper club series across London and beyond.
And so, if you’re looking for some autumnal dining, these are the best supper clubs to bookmark this season.
Peckham Arches
Located between the railway arches of Peckham Rye station, Peckham Arches has announced October and November dates for their Wednesday Supper Club series, with a different chef taking over the open-air kitchen each night. You can expect menus packed full of seasonal produce and big flavours, with an incredible atmosphere to match. The next supper club will be on 26 October, titled Lots of Butter Supper Club with Ana Da Costa, followed by another on 2 November, Mixed Feedings 2.0 with Sophie Mann and Jodie Nixon.
Kanishka
A new female-led Sunday Supper Club series is kicking off on 22 October at the fine-dining Indian restaurant Kanishka. The series will see chefs join forces with the restaurant’s chef Atul Kochhar, showcasing their culinary talents through a menu that offers a fresh take on traditional Indian cuisine. Other chefs in the series include Thuy Diem Pham on 26 November, with Anna Haugh, Selin Kaizim and Crystelle Pereira confirmed for early 2024.
Mildreds
The plant-based restaurant recently announced its new series, Dalston Supper Club, which will run through October and November. Every two weeks, Mildreds will feature tasting menus inspired by international influences that change each month. On 19 October, the supper club will be Caribbean Carnival-themed, with dishes packed full of sweet and smoky spice blends. The cost includes a dark ’n’ spicy cocktail on arrival.
Spoons
Reimagining traditional Indonesian food into vegan dishes, chef Rahel Stephanie runs the supper club Spoons, which has hosted residencies at venues such as Carousel, Soho House and The Strand. You may recognise Rahel from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, where she now presents a regular slot on the show and recently hosted a Spoons supper club at Cadet in September. You can stay up to date on their Instagram for when they announce new dates and menus.
Smoke & Lime
In its fifth year, the Smoke & Lime Supper Club is run by chef Sohini Banerjee and aims to “evoke a sense of home with the excitement of new flavours that connect old stories”. Using her family’s cooking techniques and seasonal produce, the menu features vegetarian and vegan foods with a focus on no wastage. Everything from the peels to the seeds is used in her dishes to create less of a carbon footprint. The next event in the Kolkata & Beyond series will take place on 10 November, followed by 23 and 30 November.
Sinner Supper Club
If you’re looking to combine your love of food with spooky season, food events planners Dinner Ladies are hosting the Sinner Supper Club this Halloween (31 October) at Core Clapton. Inspired by the seven deadly sins, the menu will include seven courses with seven drinks pairings and a gothic-inspired venue to match.
Fortnum’s The Food Behind the Pages
Fortnum & Mason’s supper club celebrates guest chefs each month where the menu is inspired by recipes from their latest cookbooks made in Field by Fortnum’s. The November edition of Food Behind The Pages will feature Diana Henry, who will be creating a range of dishes that celebrate the unique pleasures of autumn and winter – all from the pages of her new book Roast Figs, Sugar Snow.
