From sweet treats to sparkly cocktails, channel your inner Barbie at these London bars, restaurants, bakeries and more.
‘Event cinema’ isn’t exactly unknown to comic book fans, who are used to planning entire weekends around the release of the next Marvel adventure. But for the average filmgoer, it’s been a while since a movie has come along that’s sparked as much feverish anticipation – and desire to get involved – as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
On TikTok, people are already sharing the pink and sparkly outfits they plan on wearing to see the film when it hits cinemas on 21 July. Nightclubs across the UK are throwing Barbie-themed parties (aimed largely, and quite rightly, at women and the LGBTQ+ community). And if you’re a foodie or cocktail lover who wants to celebrate the film’s release, you can – because bars, restaurants, bakeries and more are leaning hard into everything pink, shiny and ultra-femme this summer.

The Knot Churros

Billed as “the ultimate pink paradise”, The Knot Churros – which also lays claim to being the home of “the world’s first churro afternoon tea” – recently opened its flagship store in Knightsbridge. Head along for a huge range of pink desserts that would look right at home in Barbie Land, including slushies, candyfloss, soft serves and (of course) churros.

If you’re after a perfectly pink cocktail, head to this luxe Italian restaurant in Mayfair and ask for the ‘Cupid’. It features Vecchia Romagna brandy, Sicilian mandarin liqueur, Amalfi lemon, pomegranate and raspberry – plus delicate foam flavoured with a tiny sweet-sour citrus fruit called calamansi.

From 10-13 August, the top of Peckham’s Bussey Building is being transformed into a pink paradise, with Barbie shown on the big screen. As you watch, you can sip on a Barbie margarita cocktail: tequila, triple sec, lime and dragonfruit syrup, sprinkled with edible glitter. Cinema screening tickets start at £16.95.
Cake Or Death

Known for its decadent vegan brownies delivered around the UK in pink leopard-print boxes, this cult Dalston-based bakery has launched a limited edition version to mark the release of Barbie. A tart raspberry brownie topped with white chocolate, sprinkles and the doll’s catchphrase (‘YOU CAN BE ANYTHING’), it’s perfect for Barbie fanatics and celebratory occasions alike. It’s only available for delivery until 21 July, so act fast.

Founded by former Ottolenghi protégé Ramael Scully, this central London restaurant is currently offering a limited-edition ‘Pink On You’ cocktail – mixing rose-infused vodka with lime juice, sugar syrup and a splash of cranberry juice for a fruity, refreshing and beautifully pink drink.

This summer, macaron masters Maison Ladurée are collaborating with the French hotel and wine estate Château d’Estoublon on the Ladurée x Roseblood pop-up terrace in Covent Garden: book a table to feast on blush-coloured delights including macarons, sorbets, Roseblood rosé wine, cocktails and an exclusive afternoon tea (until 30 September). Exclusive pink and pastel macarons are also available to order online (from £25).
Floozie Stuffed Cookies

These delectable cookies can be ordered online or bought in-store at Floozie’s flagship outpost in Covent Garden, London. Do as Margot would (probably) do and order the options made with pink cookie dough, from the celebration cookie (stuffed with homemade raspberry jam) to the limited-edition strawberry crumble version (filled with strawberry jam and finished with a vanilla crumble).
Hakkasan
Hakkasan has two legendary (and award-winning) high-end Chinese restaurants in central London. If you visit this summer, make sure to try the CleanCo pink mojito – a zero-proof take on the venues’ iconic pink mojito, made using CleanCo’s Clean T non-alcoholic agave spirit. A drink Barbie would be proud of (and able to drive her pink Corvette home afterwards).
