Nothing screams autumn like a comforting roast dinner served with all the trimmings. Here’s where to head for the best ones in the city.

As soon as we start to feel that slight autumn chill in the air, we know it calls for one thing and one thing only: a hearty roast dinner. It really doesn’t get better than crispy but still fluffy potatoes, tasty veg and lashings of piping hot gravy, but naturally, not all roasts are created equal.

Thankfully, we’ve done the work for you as below are 14 spots across London that get it exactly right when it comes to a comforting and slow Sunday dinner.

The best roast dinners in London

Fallow, St James’s

1. Fallow, St James’s

For an exceptional roast dinner experience with a sustainable conscience, head to Fallow, St James’s, founded by chefs Jack Croft, Will Murray and chairman James Robson. Famous for championing the use of ex-dairy livestock on its Sunday roast menu, the roasted dairy cow rump is unsurprisingly popular, as is the pork belly and a whole rotisserie chicken, all served alongside a generous helping of roast potatoes, a yorkshire pudding, carrots, swede, greens and gravy.

For those seeking a roast with serious flavour, highlights include the rolled leg of lamb with braised leeks, peas and mint-pine nut sauce; the half roast chicken served with schmaltz yoghurt and greens; and the roast middle white pork with red cabbage, grape mustard and apple slaw. Each roast is paired with crispy roast potatoes and vibrant seasonal sides.
