Move over, thin crust: the best deep-dish pizzas to enjoy in London

Cheesy, saucy and XXL, Chicago and Detroit-style deep crust pizzas are taking the city by storm.
If you’ve already sat down to absorb the frenetic drama of The Bear season two, you may have noticed an unexpected delicacy pop up. In among the fine dining dishes, cousin Richie (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) has to run to Chicago institution Pequod’s Pizza for some deep dish to surprise a diner at the fancy restaurant where he’s working.
And while the classic Neapolitan-style pizza has ruled for so long, there appears to be a new wave of XXL Detroit and Chicago-style pies spreading across London. These pizzas tend to defy convention by slathering their sauces over the cheese. The difference? Traditional Detroit-style pizza is square in shape, whereas Chicago is round with a pastry-like crust.
Both, however, are decidedly delicious. So if you’re looking to step up your pizza game, here is the best deep dish you can find right now.
Japes
Soho spot Japes was one of the first to bring the famous deep-dish pizza to the capital, making it the go-to place for an authentic treat. Don’t leave without trying the Sister Chick pizza, topped with chicken tenders, mozzarella, buttermilk ranch, baby spinach, blue cheese and parmesan.
Address: 22-25 Dean St, London W1D 3RY
Slab City Detroit Pizza
Cooked in blue steel pans with organic sourdough base and next-level crusts, this Detroit-style pizzeria serving knockout pizza is a Broadway Market staple for good reason.

Ria’s Notting Hill
Opening soon, Ria’s Notting Hill promises to be a local coffee shop by day and a Detroit-style pizza and natural wine bar by night.

Four Corners
Nestled in Rondo La Cave Wine Bar you’ll find Four Corners, the hyped Detroit-style pizza restaurant serving by the slice and full pizza pies topped with the likes of arrabbiata sauce, soppressata, cheddar, mozzarella and hot honey.
Address: 199-206 High Holborn, London WC1V 7BD
Detroit Pizza London
Billed as “the best Detroit-style pizza this side of the pond”, don’t miss out on trying its famed Red Stripe pizza, made with an American cheese blend, marinara red top and coated in parmesan.
Address: 75 Commercial St, London E1 6BD
