No need to wait for leftovers, here are nine of the best Christmas sandwiches to sample in London this December.
What’s better than a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings? The exact same thing in sandwich form. Thankfully, ’tis the season for turkey-stuffed and gravy-drenched sandwiches to pop up on cafe menus across London. Of course, when it comes to anything festive, bigger is often better, so we’ve rounded up some of the best mouthwatering sarnies that will tide over your tastebuds until the big day itself.
From B Bagel and Stakehaus to Tozi, here are ten of our favourites to try before the new year.
The Christmas Bagel at B Bagel
Switch up your Christmas sandwich game by opting for a Christmas bagel instead. At B Bagel (one of our fave bagel stops, by the way), you can grab a toasted turkey bagel, complete with cranberry sauce, mayo, spinach, cabbage and crumble. Oh, and you’ll get a side of gravy, too.
They’re also offering a Tofu Tinsel Treat, a vegan alternative.
The Turkey Toastie at The George
At The George, an 18th century pub smack dab in the middle of Soho, you’ll find a simple, no-nonsense Christmas toastie this winter. This cheesy toasted sandwich features turkey, red cabbage, stuffing, cheddar, gravy mayonnaise, spiced cranberry chutney and a side of gravy. In other words, all the good stuff.
The Christmas Sandwich at Stakehaus
This sandwich looks giant and delicious and so Christmassy. This towering stack features dry-aged roast beef rump, gravy, sage and shallot crumble, parsnip crisps, cavolo nero and cauliflower cheese. In other words, everything you’ve ever wanted on your plate for Christmas dinner stuffed between two slices of bread.
The Festive Sandwich at Tozi
This isn’t your usual Christmas sandwich. Taking inspiration from Italian cuisine, this sandwich is packed with turkey, herb stuffing and a brussels sprout slaw. Oh, and a special cranberry ketchup to finish things off.
The Fried Turkey Doughnut Christmas Sandwich at El Pollote Carnaby Street
Perhaps the most adventurous Christmas sandwich on our list is the Fried Turkey Doughnut Sandwich. Yes, it’s a Christmas sandwich, complete with fried turkey breast, bacon, stuffing, cranberry and cabbage. And yes, it’s also a doughnut. Equally confused and intrigued? Us too.
The Holiday Turkey Club at the Ginger Lily Bar & Lounge at Pan Pacific London
Another classic Christmas sandwich that won’t disappoint is the Turkey Club at the gorgeous Ginger Lily Bar at Pan Pacific London. In addition to this festive sandwich, try the seasonal punch, featuring vodka, gingerbread syrup and spices, or grab a few Christmassy sides like the pigs in blankets. There’s even a hot chocolate cart with festive (and a few boozy) drinks.
The 72-Hour Festive Jambon Brie-eurre at Oranj
How delicious does this cheesy baguette look? This is a French twist on a festive classic, containing mountains of brie de meaux along with sliced ham leg cooked for 48 hours with festive spices and a tangy cranberry-infused brown sauce. In other words, it’s a festive ham and cheese. Elite.
Raclette open sandwich at The Brush in Hoxton
Another option that’s heavy on the cheese is The Brush’s raclette open sandwich, which goes with its cheese and chocolate fondues, warm wintry cocktails and is served on the winter terrace. Yum.
The Christmas Club at PAUL
For a quick Christmassy lunch break, head to your local PAUL. They are offering two delicious baguettes this year. If you’re craving Christmas dinner in a sandwich, try the moreish Christmas Club. Or, for a different kind of festive, the brie and almond sandwich will not disappoint.
