The best-laid plans are… often made last-minute. Here are eight no-booking spots across the city that make spontaneous meet-ups simple.

Is it just us or is it really hard to be spontaneous in 2023? Whether the sunshine prompts a last-minute pub garden visit or a friend invites you out for an impromptu dinner catch-up, it’s starting to feel like you can’t turn up anywhere without having booked at least six weeks in advance.

But never fear, there are still plenty of bars and restaurants across the city that don’t just take walk-ins, but actively encourage them. Next time you find yourself craving pasta or an expertly mixed cocktail come 5pm, head to one of these eight spots.
