Whether you’re an extroverted Leo or an organised Capricorn, there’s a yoga style for you, writes yoga teacher Rae Passfield.
Chances are you’ve tried some form of yoga before – but did you know there are more than 20 different styles of yoga to explore? Yoga can be hot, warm or totally sweat-free. It can involve barely moving or doing the mat equivalent of a cardio class. It’s one practice that really does have something for every mood and moment.
The key is to understand which style might suit you best. Not all of us want to get a sweat on or work really deeply into our hip flexors. Forcing yourself to attend classes that aren’t quite the right match tends to result in the whole ‘yoga isn’t for me’ narrative. But yoga is for you – if you know what you’re looking for.
So, whether you’re a downward-dog devotee or an ardent yoga sceptic, read on to discover your zodiac-inspired yoga recommendation and be inspired to try something new today.

Aries: try hot yoga
21 March to 19 April
Fire up your spicy Aries energy with a hot yoga class. Expect 60-90 minutes of flowing poses, balances, juicy stretches and relaxation, but with a hot twist: the studio is heated to a sweltering 37°C, so you’d best believe you’ll be getting super sweaty (bring a towel to class). But with your Aries courage, passion and determined nature, you can definitely handle the heat.
Taurus: try hatha yoga
20 April to 20 May
As someone who enjoys routine, reliability and stability, hatha yoga is a refuge for your Taurean soul. This traditional yoga dates back thousands of years and is widely taught today as a slow, low-impact practice, anchoring into poses with a steady breath.
Class will begin with a chance to drop into your breath, followed by a series of poses to build strength, flexibility and balance. It’ll close with a grounding meditation – perfect for an earthy Taurus.
Gemini: try partner yoga
21 May to 20 June
If you think yoga is a strictly solo practice, think again. As a Gemini, you’re bringing a playful, social energy to the room that’s perfect for partner yoga. In this practice, you’ll move through dynamic poses with your partner, including trust-building balances that will put your stellar communication skills to work.
Poses are practised back-to-back, side-to-side and front-to-front and often involve holding onto the other person for support.
Cancer: try yin yoga
21 June to 22 July
Highly sensitive, intuitive and emotional, as a Cancer, your ideal yoga is all about introspection. Yin yoga is a floor-based practice where you’re guided into deep seated and reclined stretches which are held for extended periods of time. You’ll be breathing deeply, leaning into discomfort for up to five minutes per pose.
That may sound intense, but for the moon-ruled Cancerian, this passive, cosy practice is the perfect way to slow down and release tension.
Leo: try power yoga
23 July to 22 August
There’s nothing you like more than the chance to get your heart pumping, and a power yoga class will do just that. This is a dynamic and energy-fuelled practice that builds strength and flexibility through a fast-paced sequence of poses. With your confident and ambitious temperament, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for in power yoga, lion-hearted Leo.
Virgo: try ashtanga yoga
23 August to 22 September
For you, Virgo, precision is everything. That’s why a yoga class centred on structure and alignment is your idea of heaven. Ashtanga yoga is an athletic form of hatha yoga, with a specific series of flowing poses taught with fixed alignment. Giving you the chance to flex your Virgo perfectionism in the most satisfying way, ashtanga promotes mental clarity as much as physical mastery.
Libra: try vinyasa yoga
23 September to 22 October
A seeker of peace and harmony, the flowing, effortless sequences of vinyasa yoga are exactly what you’re looking for. In this dynamic form of yoga, you’ll embody your inner grace as you transition seamlessly between poses in synchronicity with your breath. Like the scales that symbolise this sign, it’s all about balance.
Scorpio: try tantra yoga
23 October to 21 November
You know a thing or two about being misunderstood, which is why the mysterious and taboo practice of tantra yoga is a wellspring of exploration for you. Weaving together different forms of practice, including movement, breath and visualisation, tantra yoga will awaken your senses, unlock your sexual energy and amplify your powerful Scorpio magnetism.
Sagittarius: try aerial yoga
22 November to 21 December
With an insatiable quest for adventure, your Sagittarian spirit will be set free in an aerial yoga class. In this hybrid style of yoga, you’ll use a silk hammock as a prop to support you through poses and flows. The hammock helps you to try out challenging postures without pressure on your spine, shoulders or head. For the freedom-seeker of the zodiac, this weightless form of yoga feels oh-so good.
Capricorn: try iyengar yoga
22 December to 19 January
Known for its focus on precision, timing and use of props, iyengar yoga is all about delivering results – perfect for a hard-working, detail-oriented Capricorn like you. Being organised and pragmatic, you’ll love the iyengar approach of using props to develop your practice, build strength and achieve your goals.
Aquarius: try kundalini yoga
20 January to 18 February
As an open-minded Aquarius, kundalini yoga appeals to your unconventional and spiritual side. Physical practices, known as kriyas, are combined with breath, meditation and chanting to increase your self-awareness and clear any energetic blocks in the body. Aquarians are known for being intellectual and creative, so this uplifting practice will help ready your mind for inspiration.
Pisces: try yoga nidra
19 February to March 20
As the dreamer of the zodiac, you’ll love the chance to settle into the power of your Piscean imagination with yoga nidra. Also known as ‘sleep yoga’, this practice is a powerful meditation technique in which you are guided into a state between sleep and consciousness to foster deep relaxation. Your gentle and emotional mind will be totally blissed out as you drift off into this restorative practice.
