10% of every Strong Women Trek entry will be donated to CARE International, a charity working to save lives, fight poverty and achieve social justice across the globe.
With less than a month to go until the first Trek in Surrey Hills, we’re taking this opportunity to spotlight CARE International, our official charity partner for 2023.
Beyond the fact the Strong Women Trek is a series of 22km hikes bringing like-minded women together to embrace nature, make new connections and achieve new goals, it’s also an event fundraising for a charitable cause. Supporting women and girls affected by emergencies and crises across the world is at the forefront of CARE’s agenda and we want to be part of helping to make a change.
CARE works with communities to help them rebuild their lives after a disaster. This involves delivering emergency supplies such as food, clothing and cash as well as ensuring women and girls have the shelter, healthcare and protection they need to stay safe.
By purchasing a ticket and attending the Strong Women Trek you’re helping CARE continue to deliver the life-changing support it offers to areas in need.
Turkey and Syria have been a primary focus area for CARE in recent months, following the devastating earthquakes that hit back in February.
Below is an extract from a case study based on a gynaecologist who works at Al Amal hospital in Aleppo, Syria. CARE covers all expenses and running costs of this particular hospital, including rent of the building, medical equipment and medicines costs and staff salaries.

Dr Dima Um Nour works in Al-Amal Pediatrics and Maternity Hospital in A’zaz, Aleppo Governorate, in north-west Syria.
Dr Dima has been working tirelessly, serving pregnant women, for over three years. Here’s an extract from her daily routine, which touches on the devastating impact of the recent earthquake:
“The workday starts at 8.30am. Every morning my patients wait in the lobby of our hospital. We receive pregnant women who come in for routine checkups, others who come in for their gynaecological exams or women who are scheduled to give birth, as well as walk-ins and emergency cases.
Every day I see 65 to 75 women. Most of them come from A’zaz City and its surrounding villages and camps. Imagine that 78% of people living in A’zaz are internally displaced people. So, most of the women, children and newborn babies we receive here have lost their homes and stability multiple times due to the conflict and most recently also due to the earthquakes.
The overall situation in north-west Syria was already difficult for everyone before the earthquakes, but now, everyone’s lives have just become a nightmare. People lost what they had managed to rebuild – their homes, their belongings and are now facing renewed displacement. We lost family members and friends.”
In February 2023 alone, the hospital provided 3,299 maternal and pediatric health services to women and children through the out-patient and in-patient departments. By signing up to the Strong Women Trek, we’re striving to support CARE and heroes like Dr Dima Um Nour who need our help more than ever.
