Psychedelics like LSD and psilocybin (magic mushrooms) have shown promising results when it comes to the treatment of issues like depression, but the majority of research has been conducted on men (or mice) – until now. Scientists and doctors are tentatively nudging their way into the trippy market in a bid to find out if these substances might prove useful for menstrual conditions such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Writer Ruby Deevoy has been exploring where the research currently stands and talks to one PMDD survivor who credits psychedelics with pulling her out of the lowest mental health ebb of her life.
