From a failsafe pair of running shoes to a cold water-friendly swimming costume, these are the health, wellness and fitness products the Strong Women team really rated in 2024.

Here at Strong Women, we’re lucky enough to see plenty of health, fitness and wellness products land on our desk every month. From viral supplements to the latest fitness tech, we get the chance to try out the latest products on the market and recommend which ones are worth your money.

And while this means we’ve got a lot on our hands, it means the products we really love stand out in a packed crowd. Speaking to experts all the time means we’re also well aware of what makes a product genuinely useful – so we aren’t swayed by flashy marketing or outlandish claims.

So, as we come to the end of another year, we’ve put together this guide to the products we used and loved this year – so you can invest in the things that really make a difference.

Oura ring three

Oura Gen3 Horizon smart ring

“I’ve had an Oura ring on my wellness wishlist for a while now, and after finally getting my hands on one, I can definitely say it was worth the wait. As someone who has tried a whole host of different fitness and sleep trackers, the Oura ring is the best I’ve tried. Not only does it measure a whole host of useful metrics, but it’s also completely unobtrusive and easy to wear. I came off the contraceptive pill after 10 years in May, and the Oura ring’s cycle-tracking functionality has helped me to better understand my natural hormonal fluctuations and why I feel the way I feel, which has made getting used to being off the pill – and the ups and downs associated with that – so much easier to deal with.” – Lauren Geall, Strong Women senior writer

Indi recover protein

Indi Supplements Recover protein

“Most protein is horrible – that’s a fact. But I’ve bought this one from Indi Supplements again and again – and that’s despite having brands send in all sorts of powders. It’s got a really subtle berry flavour that doesn’t overpower smoothies or bakes, it mixes well (and easily) and is packed with loads of other nutrients that I know are doing me good, such as haskap berry powder (one of the most nutrient-dense fruits in the world), electrolyte-heavy coconut water and montmorency cherry powder (an anti-inflammatory). The thing I like most about it is that although it uses stevia (a natural sweetener), it’s not overly sweet at all. I might not be doing the brutal workouts I used to do at the moment, but I was advised to add more protein into my diet a few months ago and found that mixing a scoop into coconut yoghurt formed the basis of a really tasty dessert (loaded with heaps of nut butter, cacao nibs, crushed nuts and broken biscuits).” – Miranda Larbi, Strong Women editor

Nixi Body Susie Period Pants

Nixi Body Susie period pants

“Coming off the pill in May meant getting used to having regular periods again – not fun. However, after Miranda recommended Nixi Body’s period pants to me, I decided to give a pair a go. I’ve previously used pants from Wuka and Snuggs (both of which work really well), but there’s something about the way the Nixi Body pants fit that makes them come out on top. The gusset is really absorbent and secure, so you don’t need to worry about leaks, and the seam at the back brings the legs of the pants higher, sitting close to the skin. Now, I can feel comfortable and confident when I’m on my period. It’s the best of both worlds.” – Lauren

asics-gel-nimbus

Asics Gel-Nimbus running shoes

“I’m someone who has traditionally gone for light and fast trainers, but this year, I’ve been firmly in my comfy running era. The Asics Gel-Nimbus have been a lifesaver. I’ve got a pair at home, at my parents’ house, at my in-laws’ and at my flat in Portugal – I’m that much of a fan. They’re cushioned but not heavy, great for long distances and short, and work on city roads, muddy lanes and steep countryside hills. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since switching to the Gel-Nimbus for everything bar racing, I’ve not had any Achilles tendon trouble.” – Miranda

Finisterre swimming costume

Finisterre Women’s Yulex long-sleeve swimsuit

“The idea of cold water swimming – specifically how good it makes you feel afterwards – has always intrigued me, but the idea of jumping in the sea or my local lido in December in a bikini isn’t exactly appealing. Getting to try Finisterre’s long-sleeve swimsuit has been a total game-changer. It’s made from wetsuit-like material, so unlike a normal swimming costume, it retains warmth from your body and makes the feeling of plunging in the water that little less painful. It won’t protect your hands and feet (the bits that hurt the most in cold water) but it’s helped me feel a bit more brave once I’ve taken the plunge. I’m now planning a Boxing Day swim for the first time ever, and I’m excited.” – Lauren

Built for athletes backpack

Built For Athletes 15L backpack

“I was sent a smallish grey backpack at the start of the year and started using it on honeymoon when we were trekking around Aruba. It’s the best bag I own. It’s got a million pockets for keeping stuff safe and sorted, it keeps wet swim gear and towels away from books and phones. It’s got smaller compartments for passports and wallets. In other words, it’s a Mary Poppins bag… only less twee. Since then, I’ve been sharing it with my husband, who seems to have commandeered it after witnessing how much it can carry. We’ve been using it on runs (by far the most comfy grocery running bag) and on gym days when we’re not going straight home. It’s deceptively light, sweatproof and incredibly useful. No wonder central London seems to be increasingly overrun by Crossfitters clad in BFA gear.” – Miranda

Neom Perfect Night's Sleep pillow mist

Neom Organics Perfect Night’s Sleep pillow spray

“As I mentioned in this article, I’m not someone who struggles with sleep often, but I do occasionally find myself struggling to relax and unwind before bed. Using Neom Organics’ Perfect Night’s Sleep pillow spray has really helped me to curate a calming environment before bed, which in turn has made it easier for me to switch off. I love that it’s not too overpowering – the subtle scent of lavender, chamomile and patchouli is just enough to help me nod off.” – Lauren
