About to hit the muddy fields at Glastonbury this weekend and in need of wellies? Look no further than our last-minute welly round-up for fun in the fields

The week is finally here: Glastonbury festival is upon us. After the months of build up – with the line-up finally revealing Miley Cyrus, Janet Jackson and Stormzy will perform at the festival – the chances are you’ve meticulously planned your wardrobe. Alexa Chung for Barbour jacket? Check. Cut-off denim shorts? Check. Sunglasses? Check. But what about your feet?

For some reason, in amongst the fun and festivities leading up to a festival, the most practical purchases are the ones that get forgotten about until the last minute. And it’s wellingtons that are your must-buy to ensure survival of Glastonbury – arguably the muddiest festival in the UK, not just because of the torrential downpours the Somerset fields are renowned for, but also because there’s clay in the soil, which makes the mud extra sticky. (Trust us, navigating through it is a leg workout and a half.)

Thankfully, there’s a whole host of wellies out there with next day delivery there to choose from. From cute little booties to festival classic Hunter wellingtons, here’s our pick of the best to buy now.

Hunter

The Hunter Original Tall is a Glastonbury classic. Made famous by Kate Moss and then repeatedly worn by all manner of A-Listers, including Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller, the tall boot comes just under the knee and is slim fitting so looks great worn with little dresses and cut-off shorts. Top tip: buy the gloss versions as it’s easier to clean the mud off the shiny surface. Also comes in bright colours for maximalist festivalgoers.

Juju Footwear

These cute wellington boots are the perfect choice for Glastonbury in the sunshine. Top tip: it’s better to pack two pairs of boots if you can — one for the deluge and rain and another for hot days, as wellies can get incredibly hot, especially when they’re black. These see-through rubber boots will look great with sparkly socks underneath — the fluro laces add a nice Instagrammable touch.

TU

In this season’s must-wear mustard hue, these wellingtons from TU are just the ticket for putting your best foot forward in the fields this summer. With a botanical print all over (how apt), this pair has an expandable gusset on the side to aid getting them on and off — also perfect for wider calves.

Aigle

A classic style made new: these Aigle wellies reinterpret the traditional khaki wellington with a tapered last and a curved boot top. Handcrafted in France, the brand has been making wellingtons since 1853 — it takes each craftsmen two years to learn how to make a pair. These boots are equipped with extra tread on the soles that makes them ideal for navigating wet and slippery surfaces (including mud).

Jileon

The rubber chelsea boot is made fun with this subtle yet sweet polka dot print. With an elasticated insert and heel tab for easy getting on and off (a big plus for muddy boots), these boots are specially made for wider feet, making them super comfortable for normal wearers with thick socks.

Next

Make a sparkly statement with your boot choice this festival season with Next’s pink rubber glittery wellingtons. With a two-tone mottled effect that looks a bit camouflage, this boot has a good grip on the tread and looks cute worn with boot socks in a matching pink hue. Perfect for festival fairies prancing around The Park area of Glastonbury.

Barbour

Is it a biker boot or a wellington? These cool shoes from Barbour International have the added benefit of being a waterproof boot without looking like a welly. Crafted from rubber, these rubber boots have a zip-up back, with buckle detail and wraparound strap for added style points. Looks great worn with skinny jeans or cut-off shorts for warmer days.

Peacocks

A classic black wellington with a side order of fun: these Pride wellingtons from Peacocks are perfect for the festival season. With a long narrow last and a heavy tread underfoot to prevent slippage, these rainbow-hued rubber boots are sure to make you stand out in the fields. Best paired with a colourful waterproof.

Dune

As chic as a quilted Chanel, this padded pair of wellingtons by Dune look more like an equestrian boot than a waterproof. Featuring a patent boot with a statement stripe on the tread, these boots are fluffy on the inside for extra warmth on chilly festival evenings after the sun goes down.

And last but not least, don’t forget a spare change of shoes — the last thing you want is to be headed home after the fun has finished in a muddy pair of boots.
