Whether it’s pink and purple or rich burgundy and sage green, these are the colour pairings everyone is wearing for winter.
During winter, the days may be dull and dark, but that doesn’t mean your outfits have to be. Sure, it’s easy to reach for the nearest black jumper and navy coat, but we’re here to tell you this is one of the best times to have fun with colour. Why? Because when the sun is setting around 3pm, we could all do with a little lift from our outfits. If you’re usually colour-shy or stick to neutrals, then you’re about to get a lesson in how to wear this season’s key hues.
Some of the most stylish women on socials have already been wearing red, butter yellow, grey, brown and burgundy (all of winter’s hottest shades) in an unlikely way: colour clashed. We’re seeing luxe burgundy bags with sage green jumpers, and yellow scarves teamed with brown coats. There are so many interesting ways to wear colour this season, and we guarantee you’ll want to try them out when you see how good they look together…
Burgundy + sage green
Stylist Monikh often tries out colour combinations that look subtle and chic rather than statement. The most recent one is a glossy burgundy Loewe puzzle bag with a slouchy sage green knit. Both rich shades work surprisingly well together, creating a dream colour match you’ll want to wear all winter.
Camel + butter yellow
Butter yellow was an autumn favourite, so no doubt you may already own something in this colour already. If not, a knit dress or jumper is a wise investment and works wonders (as seen here) with a classic camel coat. You’ll end up wearing this with boots and tights for winter and taking the cool colour combo through to spring, too.
Purple + pink
One of the most joyful accounts to follow, @heartzeena is the queen of colour when it comes to both outfits and interiors. Always one to try out multiple colours at once, Zeena has shown how easy it is by opting for a bold pink and purple coat. The ready-made colour clashing outfit is a way to ensure the colours go together, with minimal effort needed to try to match them.
Grey + red
Combining two of winter’s key colours was bound to work, and Renia proves our point with a grey tailored suit brightened up with a flash of red. Adding a bright roll neck underneath a waistcoat, shirt or V-neck dress is a fun way to give your look a bit of interest – and add some cosy layers to your winter wardrobe.
Yellow + brown
News just in: yellow trainers are going to huge news in 2024. That’s right, off the back of colourful trainers being key for 2023, the new colour to try out is bold yellow. Unsure how? Make like Lara and match them to your jumper with jeans and brown accessories. We wouldn’t necessarily think of putting brown and yellow together, but it works!
