From posh puffers to stompy boots, this is how to take on the cool season with force.
It’s easy to toss fashion out of the window when the temperature starts to drop. Believe me, I get it; staying stylish when it’s cold can feel impossible. Most mornings, I stand in front of the mirror, only to resort to an oversized hoody and leggings (I’ve been living in the same Adanola athleisure combo for weeks now).
While we love and rely on these comfy winter staples, wearing them daily can lead to a style rut. The good news is that refreshing your cold-weather wardrobe for 2024 is easier than you might think.
A few easy styling tweaks and the addition of some key pieces can make a huge difference. Consider incorporating a statement coat, a sturdy pair of boots and a pressed pleated skirt into your winter rotation. With these trusty essentials, you can break free from the monotony and feel effortlessly put-together on even the most chaotic of days.

Step 1: add a posh padded puffer
A good winter coat is the mainstay of any cold-weather wardrobe. Besides a classic wool coat, a waterproof puffer is a staple you can depend on (and no, not the ones you wore back in the day for your school geography trip). I mean posh puffers: the ones with sleek and structured silhouettes that you can wear while errand running or on all your dog walks. With drawstring hoods and sculptural, squishy designs, these coats will make you ready for whatever the weather throws at you.

Pangaia DNA flower-warmth cropped puffer
You can always count on Pangaia for quality outerwear styles. Pillowy to the touch, this puffer jacket is filled with Flwrdwn (a down alternative made from wildflowers). It has a sculptured silhouette and voluminous hood design that will add a little structure to your outfits.
Step 2: combine a neat pleat skirt with tights
A maxi skirt with maxi impact will always do the trick when winter comes around. Over the last few seasons, I’ve stocked up on my fair share of pleated skirts – or plidis, as they are so often called – and this year I’m loving an asymmetric ankle-grazing style. They are my bright anchor in the winter months and ideal for layering over tights to make sure my legs stay warm while my outfit looks chic.

Step 3: go heavy-duty when it comes to shoes
You really can’t go wrong with a sturdy boot, especially when the temperature dips. Whether you go for a cute, cosy, shearling-lined pair or an edgy, heavy-duty option with stompy soles and tough details, boots are an absolute non-negotiable in winter, adding an edge to your outfit while keeping your toes toasty warm.
I love a buzzy biker boot, like Miuccia Prada’s buckled Miu Miu ones (below). With statement silver hardware and all the studded details, they will offset your classic puffer and plidi combo – and make sure the chill stays out.
